Mike Priebe Roofing has been in business for over fifty years now. My father started the company in 1956 and I have been running it since 1991. My father started doing roofing work for builders and friends of his and the company just grew from there. I've grown up in this business and as soon as I could, I'd follow my father around and climb the ladders. I was probably about eight or nine years old when I first went up on a roof and by the time I was sixteen I was working with the crews and earning a paycheck.
We do residential and commercial roofing including new roofs and re-roofs, and our main focus is on the retail roof market. A lot of our business, surprisingly, is tearing off roofs that were installed improperly just a couple years ago and re-roofing according to the manufacturers specifications. One of the most important issues in roofing is ventilating the roof properly to eliminate mold and ice backup issues. About seventy percent of this area's homes don't have valid warranties simply because improperly installed shingles or poorly ventilated attics will invalidate a warranty. We are one of the few companies in this area licensed and certified by GAF, Certainteed, and Owens Corning. We send our guys to school and the manufacturers check us out, do background checks, and then certify us to offer factory warranted roofs. By working to the manufacturers' specifications, we can offer extended manufacturer warranties on labor and materials that other roofing companies can not.
While we're growing, our Operations Management Team makes sure that jobs run properly and our quality remains consistently high by doing a series of inspections. We make sure the correct materials are purchased and delivered on time and that our crews are on time every day. We conduct in-progress inspections and a final thirty point inspection of every roof. Our inspections are very thorough and we make sure the shingles are installed to manufacturer's specifications so we can offer the best warranty in the business. Finally, we meet with the homeowners to answer any final questions and address any concerns they may have to guarantee their complete satisfaction. This system has worked so well for us that sixty percent of our business comes from referrals from satisfied customers. You'll see our yard signs everywhere. We are proud of our work and have an extensive list of roofs that we've done sorted by area and color to help our customers choose the style and color they prefer for their roof.
The majority of our employees have been with us for ten years. We try to find guys that have houses and families of their own because they will show up for work every day and do the job the way they want it done at their house. We pay our guys very well because we want to keep them and it's hard to replace a good guy. Our crews can do just about anything and there really isn't anything in the remodeling line that we can't handle. My father has been in this business forever and there isn't much he hasn't seen or done. He's always available for consultation in addition to the support we receive from our manufacturer's reps.
